Life Changing Mission Experience

Dennis Mullet and his team of sixteen landed in Kenya on the 13th of January 2006. The team that has already done one week since is as excited about their mission as they were on arrival. Except for the little sunburns here and there and the discomfort of having to adjust to hot and dusty climate, there are getting on just fine.

Since Tuesday they have been evangelizing in Kiganjo, a suburb in Thika. Here they have been holding crusades every evening since Tuesday. The crusades that have been organized by African Christian Mission International (ACMI) in conjunction with Kiganjo Churches will be running until Sunday the 22nd. Dennis Mullet has been bringing a team every January for the past few years for short term missions. This is always a wonderful experience for those who participate. This year the crusades have been all the more powerful.

Usually, they spend half the day in Muguga helping Pastor Mutune, ACMI Field Coordinator with the construction of Neema Christian Church International (Neema CCI). Then at 4:00pm, the team, the Life Changers and other ACMI workers head to Kiganjo. While the equipment is being set up, the rest go around doing some one-on-one evangelism. Souls have already been won this way.

The Life Changers praise and worship team has been doing a wonderful job of leading people into the Lord’s presence and setting the right mood just before the preacher takes over. Evangelist Dave Miller is the man who has been charged with delivering the sermons that have seen many come to the Lord. For the three days that the crusades have been running, we have had about thirty souls accepting Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior. We look forward to seeing more souls come to Christ even in the remaining days. We cannot fail to recognize the support of the Kiganjo Churches that have played a big role in organizing the crusades. Bishop Francis and Grace Maina of the Regeneration Church of Christ have been supportive. And so has Pastor Jackson Gitonga of Builder Chapel International. Christian Church International has also been involved.

On another note, the team on Thursday the 19th visited the land in Muguga that has recently been acquired by Operation Hope. Operation Hope is an ACMI project coordinated by Rahab Kamara that has been involved in helping orphaned and needy children. Basically, with the support of sponsors, they provide the children with uniforms and some tender loving kindness (TLC). “Usually, the children and their families are in such dire situations that giving them uniforms alone is not enough” says Kamara. “We end up carrying some un-perishable food stuffs with every trip that we make to their homes. Giving them uniforms alone never seems to be enough.”

With the acquisition of the new land, there is now greater hope that the dream of an orphanage will come to pass. This will make the work of reaching out to destitute children much easier since most of the facilities that they need to use will be accessible. Pastor Mutune talks of growing some subsistence food crops in the land so that they don’t have to fundraise for food every so often. And as a sign that the Lord is really for this project, there are already plans by other individuals who are not even associated with ACMI of setting up a hospital and a police station on the nearby plots of land.

Linda and Sharon who have been involved in fundraising for the purchase of the land will be staying on for two more months to help in putting up a fence. Keith who also has a heart for this project will also be staying on for the two months. It’s our prayer that the project will be completed by the end of the year.
