Joe Hochstetler's Team
Really expectant...

Joe Hochstetler flew into Kenya for a short term mission on the 16th of March 2006. Together with were four others, one of them being his daughter, Sha. The others are Beth, Felicia and Andy. All except for Felicia and Beth have been to Kenya before. Andy is originally from Ohio but moved to Oklahoma about a year ago and he works with Juveniles. The rest are from Ohio and fellowship with Pleasant View Mennonite church where Joe pastors.

They are here for two weeks and will hence be flying back on 3rd of April 2006. They will be staying at the Blue Posts Hotel in Thika for a couple of nights before moving on to blend better with Kenyans in a typical Kenyan home. This means that they will eat the common Githeri which is a staple food for most, or better still, the Ugali and Sukumawiki!!! Well, of-course we have nice meals like those ones of our chef Rose. Those, you wouldn't afford to miss. Short term missions are always fun.

They will also be working at the ACMI Vision Village Construction site for a couple of mornings before proceeding on to minister in crusades and Revival meetings in Wonderful CCI (Christian Church International), Witeithie, Thika. That’s on the Thika – Nairobi Highway. After all the hard work, going on Safari is just the finest climax anyone would long for. Even Felicia wouldn’t agree with me more. The team would be going on to Maasai Mara for three days where they will be hosted in comfy and affordable accommodations.

We talked to them about what they are expecting of this mission and this is what they had to say.

Expectations:
Joe says: “We are going to see what God is going to do. We are also looking forward to meeting new people. You know, we are all brothers and sisters in the Lord and although usually separated by over 8,000miles, we have one thing in common, the Lord Jesus Christ. That is what makes it all worth coming here like this. I remember last year, we were in Uganda first before coming to Kenya. God did great and mighty things. The Bible says, “Call on me and I will show you great and mighty things that you know not about.” And he showed that to me over and over again when we were here in 2004.”

Eli who was here in 2003 says, “When I came here I thought I was coming to try and help people but it didn’t work out that way. I felt that I was very blessed by being here. When I left I didn’t really want to leave but when I got here I wanted to go home because the first week was tough. But after spending two and a half weeks I just could believe the compassion that people have here and the blessing we received. And by the time I left I realized, ‘I’ve made it.’ I didn’t think I would.

Sha says, “When I first decided to come on this trip, immediately after I had really serious spiritual warfare going on. I just felt really attacked by Satan. And last week when I was getting ready to come, it’s started again, that almost made me want to get here the more. I thought that if I am having this much spiritual warfare, then there must be something that what God wants to do. So I am really curious about what it could be.”
